Princeton University Cross-Registration Agreement

About the Program

Starting in Fall 2026, TCNJ and Princeton University are launching a cross-registration agreement that allows eligible students to enroll in select courses at either institution at no additional cost. This partnership is designed to give you access to specialized courses not available on your home campus.

Details:

  • Eligibility: Primarily for upper-level undergraduate students in strong academic standing.
  • Course Limit: Students are eligible to take one course at Princeton University that is not offered or not substantially similar to current TCNJ offerings.
  • Credit: Courses count toward your degree requirements, subject to existing academic policies.
  • Approvals: All registrations require approval from both institutions and the course instructor.

How to Apply

If you are interested in applying for this program, please complete the Cross-Registration Interest Form.

For additional questions, please contact Vice Provost Tammy Dieterich at collegecore@tcnj.edu.

Frequently Asked Questions

How selective is this program?

The TCNJ-Princeton cross-registration program is highly selective. Academic record, intentionality of course selection, and junior/senior class status are key factors for eligibility.

Is there a cost to this program?

There is no additional tuition cost for TCNJ students. Students register for a full-time semester of courses at TCNJ, and a placeholder course will indicate that a course is being simultaneously taken at Princeton University under this agreement.

How will the credits transfer?

Courses taken at Princeton University under this agreement will transfer evenly.

Which courses are available at Princeton University?

Students may register for courses at Princeton only if a similar course is not offered at TCNJ. Students may currently request any undergraduate course, noting that final approval for the selected course will be made by Princeton University. Please see the Princeton University Office of the Registrar Course Offerings for a full list of available classes.

Can this course count towards my major or College Core requirements?

Students who would like the course to count as a major requirement must first gain approval from their Chairperson, or Vice Provost Tammy Dieterich (collegecore@tcnj.edu) for College Core requirements. Otherwise, courses will count as a free elective.

Can students take more than one course at Princeton?

No, students may only take one course at Princeton University during their time at TCNJ, subject to approval.

Can a course count towards the Honors and Scholars Program requirements?

Students in the Honors and Scholars Program at TCNJ may seek approval to count a Princeton cross-registration course towards their Honors and Scholars requirement. Students must request approval from the Honors and Scholars program in advance.

When is the deadline to submit the Interest Form?

May 1 for the forthcoming fall semester, and October 1 for the forthcoming spring semester.

Will transportation be provided to the Princeton University campus?

Students are responsible for their transportation to and from Princeton University.

Will students have access to Parking at Princeton University?

Yes, students will be provided parking access at Princeton University.

Is cross-registration available in the Summer or Winter terms?
